2021-06-29

In May 2021, Tsukuba-Plant Innovation Research Center (T-PIRC) of University of Tsukuba, signed a joint research agreement with the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Tsukuba Center to start a joint project on the use of ICT.

In rural areas of developing countries, there is a need to increase farmers’ income by improving agricultural productivity and value-added agricultural products. As one of the measures for that, it is necessary to disseminate correct farming knowledge and techniques to agricultural workers, and to generalize and pass on cultivation techniques.

With the rapid development of information and communication technologies, the adoption of smart technologies in each stage of the food value chain, including breeding, agricultural production, processing and distribution, and consumption, is rapidly progressing, and the need for such technologies is further increasing due to the COVID-19 disaster.
