On July 8, 2024, students from National Chung Hsing University in Taiwan, a partner university of the University of Tsukuba, visited the T-PIRC facility as part of the TSSP (Tsukuba Short-term Study Program: Bioresource Science Short-term Training Program) training program. The students visited T-PIRC facilities to learn about cutting-edge bioresource science research, agricultural technology, and issues in temperate agriculture.
After an opening address by Dean Utsumi of the School of Bioresource Sciences, the program started with a lecture on “Overview of Genome Editing Tomato” by Professor Chiaki Matsukura, a tour of the Gene Reserch Center by Assistant Professor Koichi Sugimoto, and a visit to the T-PIRC farm by Assistant Professors Morio Kato and Yoshihiko Sekozawa.
Although some of the scheduled outdoor tours were shortened due to the extreme heat of the day, with temperatures exceeding 35°C, the students actively requested to see agricultural machinery and other equipment, showing their high level of interest in the program.
