Field Practices in Bioresource Production I: Planting of paddy rice, cuttings of ornamental plants

Field Practices in Bioresource Production I was held at the T-PIRC farm on June 23, 2022.
In the paddy field, students transplanted rice seedlings using hand transplanters, trying to transplant them straight but sometimes getting their feet caught in the mud. By finishing the day’s field practices, the transplantation of all the paddy fields on the T-PIRC farm was completed.
On the one hand, students prepared the cutting of Gold Crest (Cupressus macrocarpa ‘Gold Crest’) for the practice of asexual propagation of ornamental plants (green wood cuttings). Students cut branches of Gold crest carefully and placed the cutting into the hole they made in the potting mix. The new plants obtained from cuttings are genetically identical to the parent plants. Cuttings also accelerates plant growth and flowering. Finally, we can propagate plants by maintaining the same characteristics created by mutation.
Field Practices in Bioresource Production I in Spring semester finished as 23 June. Students will learn the harvest of rice, evaluate rooting of Gold crest cuttings, transplant rooted cuttings and other interesting practices from Field Practices in Bioresource Production II in Fall semester.
